When we think of health and a healthy life there is a picture in our minds of an athlete or a sportsman. These tall, fit and well built people who are at the peak of physical fitness. When we watch an athletic or sporting event and we see these people competing we all would like to be able to do what they are doing. We can feel that sense of joy that can be seen on the victor's face and that triumphant gesture as the event is won. Sometimes we also see the other less fortunate competitors, who did not win, gasping for breath, their faces showing the frustration and pain of loosing. Yet win or loose all of these people have performed great feats of endurance and athletic prowess.

Although we dream of being athletes, having great strength and being healthy, the reality of our lives is very often quite different. Each day we must deal with the work of living; taking care of the home, looking after the children, going to work and all the other tasks that make up our daily routine. So when we have some spare time from the work of life the first thing that comes to mind is rest, relaxation. Usually when we exercise we do not think of it as part of our work life but part of the relaxation in our life, and because of this it is always seen as being less important than working. We think very little of missing a workout or not going to an exercise class and as our everyday work life expands, as it often does, it is always the relaxation part of our life that suffers. Soon those dreams we had of being healthy and fit like the athletes that we admire fade away as the work part of our life grows and we workout less, miss more exercise classes and the home equipment gather dust in the corner.

The part of the athlete's life that we do not see is that when they exercise they are working. So, just like the rest of us, there are often times when the work part of their life expands, when this happens they exercise more! So the key to living a healthy life is to treat your exercise as part of your work life. You may not like it, after all who likes work, but if you stick to it and treat it as seriously as you do your work it will become an important part of your life.

Your health is your life so when you exercise be persistent, try to stay on a true course. Every time you feel your work expanding into your workout time remember that exercising is as important as your work in fact; when you prepare to workout be ready to go to work and invest in your own future!
